NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURES (NOP)
Kennack Sands Surf School aims to provide a highly professional, safe and supportive surfing experience at all times. It is essential that Kennack Sands surf school instructors are fully aware of their role and responsibilities, and are able to recognise the potential hazards that exist or may arise whilst teaching surfing. Although Kennack Sands beach is relatively safe, incidents do occur as a result of the public use of sea and adjoining areas, as well as the nature of the sea and local weather conditions. In accordance with these potential dangers, this document sets out the known potential hazards and measures to be taken (together with Kennack Sands risk assessments) as and when necessary by Kennack Sands Surf Schol, as the NORMAL OPERATING POLICY (NOP).
FLAT AND EXTREME CONDITION POLICY (INCORPORATING REFUND POLICY)
At the Kennack Sands Surf School we endeavour to give all our students a first class surfing experience, however due to external factors we occasionally have to assess whether the conditions are suitable to run a surfing lesson.
We will always seek the advice of the Lifeguards when deciding to cancel a lesson.
Flat Conditions
Should the conditions at Kennack Sands beach be such that it is too small to operate a lesson the refund policy will be applied.
The size of the waves will be judged by the Head instructor and he will decide whether the size is suitable for a lesson, taking into account the following factors:
• Wave size- is the wave big enough to propel surf board forward
• Length of ride- is the wave long enough to allow standing up
• Level of surfing- is the level of surfing to be taught suitable to operate a lesson (i.e. paddling practice for more advanced lessons)
• Body size of the surfer and group size
Extreme Weather Conditions (i.e. high winds, big swell)
In the situation of extreme weather conditions, the Head instructor will assess whether it is safe and practical to operate a lesson. He will address the following factors:
• Are the lifeguards on duty and is the beach ‘red flagged’
• Is the wind direction / swell size such to cause danger (i.e. off shore winds)
• What is the experience of the clients (i.e. beginners or more advanced surfers?)
Refund & Cancellation Policy
In case of lesson cancellation due to adverse weather conditions or flat surf, we will offer the ability for any pre-paid customers to come back on an alternative day when weather conditions are suitable for a surf lesson.
If the customer is unable to change their surfing lesson to a different day/ time we will give them a cash refund.
For those customers who have not prepaid for their lesson, we will offer them an alternative lesson time when the conditions are more suitable.
